The Delaware Valley Youth League (DEVYL) is preparing to send two teams to USA Ultimate's Youth Club Championships (YCC) this summer from August 10th to August 13, 2012. DEVYL will be sending teams in the U-19 Open and U-16 Open Divisions. In 2011, DEVYL placed 3rd in the U-19 Division and 5th in the U-16 Division. The YCC Tournament is the only chance for youth players to play for a National Championship against the top players in the nation. Club Winter League Info
Here is information regarding the DEVYL 2012 Club Winter League starting this weekend in Metuchen, NJ.
Divisions and Schedules:
There are two divisions. We have renamed to the Under-16 years old (U-16) and Under-19 years old (U-19) divisions to reflect USA Ultimate's divisions at the Youth Club Championships. Also, this allowed us to put more players in the league since the former "high school division" had filled up. If you are on the age border, please check the team list in the email to know which division you are in.
Also, the U-19 Division will be coed as noted in the team list and rules.
Pool Play Games:
Friday, January 6th (U-16 Division at 5pm, U-19 Division at 6pm)
- Black vs. Blue, Red vs. White
Friday, January 13th (U-16 Division at 5pm, U-19 Division at 6pm)
- Black vs. Red, Blue vs. White
Friday, January 20th (U-16 Division at 5pm, U-19 Division at 6pm)
- Black vs. White, Blue vs. Red
Championship and 3rd Place Game:
Sunday, January 22nd at 12 noon -U-19 Championship Game and 3rd Place Game
Sunday, January 29th at 12 noon - U-16 Championship Game and 3rd Place Game
Location:
Metuchen Sportsplex
215 Durham Ave
Metuchen, NJ 08840
http://metuchensportsplex.com/
Sportsplex Rules and Suggestions:
1) Warm up - Arrive a few minutes early to warm up. Your personal warm up will need to be quick. Games will start 5 minutes after the hour. We take the turf at 5pm for the U-16 division. At this point, there is nobody on the turf before us so you might be able to throw and warm up for a few mins before. In the U-19 division, you can come early since we have the turf for the U-16 division. Don't interfere with their game, but you will find space to warm up around the outside of the field.
2) Footwear - Rubber molded cleats, turf shoes, or tennis shoes are all acceptable. For the first game, I suggested bringing your cleats and tennis shoes and testing to see what works best for you. No metal spikes.
3) Food and Drink - No food or drink on the turf itself. Keep it on the outside.
4) Traveling - Be wary about traffic on the way to the place especially if you are trying to arrive at 6pm coming down the Parkway past Edison. You may want to plan an alternate route or leave a little bit earlier.
Game Rules:
- Game play will be 5 on 5
- Games will be running time and end at 5 minutes prior to the next hour (so 5:55 or 6:55). At times end, you do not finish the point, you finish the play, so if the disc is in the air, that pass will count. Therefore, the game could end in a tie.
- In the U-19 Division which is coed, there must be one girl on at all times. Offense dictates and so if the offense team puts on two girls, then defense must match. Offense must tell the defense quickly after the previous point ended. A team could put more than 2 girls on, but the opposing team does not have to match.
- Stalls will be to the "s" in "Seven" instead of the "t" in "Ten"
- If the disc contacts anything out of play (ceiling, etc), it is a turnover on the playing field proper nearest it contacted the out of play item.
- All other rules are standard USA Ultimate rules
- Note that we might change a rule after week 1 if it helps continued play.
See you at the league!
